Organizing the Disorganized Mind

Have you ever struggled with managing your time, been significantly impacted by distractions, or experienced painful consequences from your impulsivity?  These, along with several other symptoms, are ADHD tendencies and impact millions of adults in the U.S.  Many adults with ADD / ADHD are unaware that they have this disorder—they often just feel that it’s impossible to get organized, to stick to a job, or keep an appointment. Many problem behaviors stem from ADD/ADHD such as low self-esteem, anger control, substance abuse, mood swings, and relationship problems.  In addition, a mental health diagnosis of depression can arise if the issues are not addressed.

If you see your own behaviors in any of this article, you will benefit from attending this informational seminar on Saturday, February 4, from 12 – 3:00 p.m. at the counseling center.  Leslie Marshall, MA, PCC, will provide a basic overview of the ADHD brain as well as tools and tips about how to improve your situation and take charge of your life. The cost for this seminar is just $10/person. For additional information, or to sign up for the group, click here and select “Organizing The Disorganized Mind”.

Getting hitched?  Tying the knot?  Exchanging vows?  If you’re getting married soon, attending our “Before You Say I Do” workshop is a must!  Research has shown that the following relationship skills and knowledge contribute to the success and endurance of marriage:

· Compatibility
· Expectations
· Personalities and families-of-origin
· Communication
· Conflict resolution
· Intimacy and sexuality
· Long-term goals

We will be discussing each of these issues in a group setting, allowing for great conversation and a more educational, versus therapeutic, environment.

And if it’s not you doing the hitching or tying or exchanging, maybe you know someone who is preparing for their marriage and would like to get them a memorable gift.  Why not consider buying the gift that will last a lifetime, a priceless, loving gift of admission to our workshop?

The workshop is led by one of our clinicians and takes place several times a year.  To learn more, or to register for a workshop, click here.

Sex plays a crucial role in our experience as humans. It is God’s gift of deepest intimacy with another person. But when we lose control of our sexual behavior, emotional and psychological devastation can follow quickly behind. Dr. Patrick Carnes defined sex addiction in the early 1980s with his groundbreaking work, Out of the Shadows. There he says a sex addict is “someone who uses any sexual activity to alter his or her emotional state and has lost the ability to control this behavior.”

This men’s group begins by helping men evaluate how their sexual behavior obscures values, hopes, and dreams. Whether you struggle with promiscuity, affairs, pornography addiction, or same-sex encounters, from Fantasy to Eternity gives you an eternal perspective for sexual renewal.

This group is ongoing and new members may start any time. Fantasy to Eternity meets Mondays at 7:00pm and is moving to Wednesdays starting February 29th.
